CVIP Completes EV Charging Station Project
Chiloquin Visions in Progress began work in late 2022 to secure a grant for the installation of several new electric vehicle chargers in Chiloquin to provide charging capability for tourists visiting Chiloquin, Train Mountain, Crater Lake, and other local areas. The EV Charging Station has two chargers that work at different charging speeds and costs. A 240V ChargePoint Level Two Dual Charger is the slower, less expensive one and a 480V ChargePoint Level 3 Fast Charger is faster and more costly. Online maps will identify this location for traveling EV drivers.
A Pacific Power grant funds the project, with CVIP administering the grant and coordinating construction. This project was also made possible with support from the Oregon Clean Fuels Program.
Construction began in April 2024 on installing two EV chargers on the Chiloquin City property at the South end of Blackstone Market. One charger is a High-Speed, and the other is a two-port medium-speed charger. Bob’s Excavating started the project by installing underground electrical conduits and cables from the new charging station and moving them to a power pole in the alley next to the Blackstone Market. Next, a concrete foundation was built to support the new chargers. Then, Pacific Electrical Contractors (PEC) of Klamath Falls completed the installation.
Now that the project has been completed, the ownership and management of the charging stations will be transferred to the City of Chiloquin, and the city will receive the revenue from people using the chargers.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, November 15, at 12:30 pm.
