The Friends of the Chiloquin Library is a CVIP program that supports our local public library, located within the Chiloquin Community Center. The program's goals are to stimulate the use of the library's resources, help develop library services and facilities for the community, and encourage reading through activities and events for all ages.
FoCL is dedicated to supporting the Right to Read Act and promoting a love of reading for all ages. Through youth and community programs, FoCL encourages learning, imagination, and connection—from early literacy activities for our youngest readers to a scholarship fund that helps support higher education.
You will often find FOCL members at the Chiloquin Friday Market giving away books to read, conducting Story Time with Paprika the Pirate and Sister Sage at the library, and conducting other fun events, such as hosting a “High Tea / Coffee Time” for adults and seniors at our Chiloquin library.
FoCL is a volunteer-led organization that relies entirely on community support. Monetary donations are always appreciated and may be mailed or dropped off at the Chiloquin Library. Donations of gently used book sets, crafting materials, and volunteer time for events and activities are also greatly needed and appreciated.

As part of this year's "Plant a Seed: Read!" Summer Reading Program, children are not only exploring new stories but also getting their hands dirty by creating a brand-new garden alongside the library. The garden gives participants a chance to experience firsthand how seeds become plants while learning valuable lessons about patience, responsibility, and caring for the natural world.
Throughout the summer, the garden will continue to grow with the help of the young gardeners. Every Thursday, Deb will lead fun, hands-on gardening activities, teaching children how to care for their plants, understand what helps them thrive, and appreciate the many benefits of gardening. Participants will also explore the library's collection of gardening books, discovering how reading can inspire curiosity, answer questions, and spark a lifelong interest in growing flowers, vegetables, and native plants.
If you haven't visited the library lately, stop by to see how the garden is growing and learn more about the exciting activities taking place throughout the summer. We look forward to watching both our young readers and their gardens flourish together!
The Friends of the Chiloquin Library (FOCL) was formed on March 2, 1980, to support the local library in the City of Chiloquin. In 2000, FOCL, with the generous support of our community, successfully raised $4,700, contributing to the building fund for the Community Center, which is currently housing the library.
In 2023, the current Board of Directors for FOCL announced their intention to conclude operations by the end of 2023. They appealed to interested individuals to take on the responsibility of leading the group. Enter a dedicated group of community members who rose to the occasion, forming a new Board of Directors. Together, they took up the mantle and relaunched the Friends of the Chiloquin Library with a new commitment to supporting our local public library, enhancing library services, and fostering a love for reading activities and events for all age groups.
At the end of 2024, the Board of Directors for both FOCL and CIVP agreed to bring FOCL into CVIP as one of its programs.
