Giving More Materials a Second Chance - Helping Keep Chiloquin Clean and Beautiful

The Chiloquin RecycleOn Center provides our community with a free and convenient place to recycle materials that cannot normally be placed in home or business recycling bins. Located in the CVIP parking lot at the Chiloquin Community Center, the Center accepts items such as plastic bags, plastic lids and caps, aluminum foil, shredded paper, and plastic buckets and pails. CVIP is pleased to host this new service as part of a statewide effort to make recycling easier and more accessible. By carefully following the signs and placing only approved materials in each bin, community members can help reduce waste, prevent contamination, and keep more recyclable materials out of the landfill.

Accepted Materials

Plastic Bags and Stretchy Plastics

Items must be empty and dry. Stretchy plastic will usually stretch when pulled instead of tearing or crinkling.

Plastic Lids, Caps, and Rigid Package Handles

Items must be clean and dry. We do not accept plastic bottles, clamshell containers, or #1 PET lids.

Aluminum Foil and Trays

Items must be empty and dry. Do not include metal cans, metal lids, other non-foil metals, hoses, cords, or wires.

Shredded Paper

Please place shredded paper in a paper bag and roll or staple the bag closed.

Plastic Buckets and Pails

Lids may be included. Do not bring containers that held automotive fluids, pesticides, herbicides, or hazardous materials.

Please Do Not Bring

    Glass bottles or jars, refundable bottles or cans, batteries, electronics, household trash, food or liquids, hoses, cords, or wires, hazardous or leaking materials.


    How Did This Program Come About?

    The RecycleOn Center is part of a major update to Oregon’s recycling system. In 2021, the Oregon Legislature passed the Plastic Pollution and Recycling Modernization Act. The law requires many companies that produce packaging, paper, and food-service items to help pay to improve and expand recycling in Oregon.

    The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality approved Circular Action Alliance as the organization responsible for implementing much of the new system. Its work includes helping communities improve recycling services, supporting recycling education, upgrading equipment, and establishing drop-off centers for items that are harder to recycle.

    RecycleOn Centers are one part of that effort. More than 140 free locations are expected to open across Oregon by the end of 2027. CVIP agreed to serve as the local host so Chiloquin and surrounding communities could benefit from the program. RecycleOn provided the collection center, bins, signs, and support, while CVIP provides the location and oversees its daily operation.
